Phil Wood 1921-2010. Phil Wood of Richmond BC (1921-2010), one
of the most charismatic and entertaining of our National Tournament Directors,
died on Sunday, February 14 of Parkinson's Disease. Phil, the first Canadian
to be appointed a National Director by the ACBL, had tremendous microphone
presence, a fine sense of humor, a way of making the players feel comfortable
and at ease — and an amazing ability to add a column of numbers.
He was held in high esteem by his co-workers and beloved by his staff.
A former member of the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force), he was awarded
the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944.
